Quick answers for measuring and ordering
FAQ
These questions cover the most common issues: sizing, handing, lead times, and hardware compatibility. If you cannot find your answer, contact us with a photo of your existing door and a few measurements. We reply with a clear recommendation and what to check next, without pushing you into a purchase.

Measuring
What measurements do I need for a replacement interior door?
You will usually need the door leaf width, height, and thickness. Also note hinge positions from the top edge (to the top of each hinge) and whether the door opens towards you or away from you. If you are keeping the existing latch, measure the backset and the size of the latch case cut-out. If you are unsure, send a photo of the hinge side and lock side with a tape measure visible.
Do I measure the frame opening or the door itself?
For a door leaf replacement, measure the existing door. For a complete door set, measure the structural opening and confirm whether you need a frame, lining, and threshold. If your frame is damaged or out of square, a door set is often the cleaner solution, but it depends on the condition and the surrounding finish work.
Handing and swing
How do I tell if a door is left-hand or right-hand?
Stand on the side where you can see the hinges. If the hinges are on the left, it is typically a left-hand door; if the hinges are on the right, it is typically a right-hand door. In some product ranges, terminology can vary, so if you are uncertain, send us a photo and we will confirm the correct handing for your selection.
Can I reverse the swing of an existing door?
It is sometimes possible, but it usually requires moving hinge recesses and latch keep positions, and it may affect how the door meets stops and seals. For exterior doors and performance doors, reversing swing can compromise sealing or performance if not done correctly. We recommend confirming the plan with an installer first.
Delivery
How long does delivery take?
Typical delivery is 2 to 7 business days for stocked items, depending on location and scheduling. Some specialist or made-to-order items can take longer. We provide a written confirmation of estimated lead time when you request a quote, so you can plan your fitting date with less risk.
Can you coordinate multiple items to arrive together?
Yes, within reasonable limits. If you are ordering several doors plus hardware, we can advise what is likely to ship together and what may ship separately. The goal is to reduce site downtime. If a split delivery is better for your project, we will explain the trade-offs clearly.
Hardware
How do I know if my lock will fit a new door?
Check the backset (distance from the door edge to the centre of the spindle/key), the case size, and the faceplate length. If you are replacing an existing door leaf, matching these measurements usually prevents extra cutting. If you do not have the lock model, a photo of the faceplate and a couple of measurements is often enough for us to advise.
Do I need two or three hinges?
Many interior doors use three hinges for stability, especially with heavier cores or taller doors. Exterior doors and performance doors often require hinges sized for weight and usage. If you tell us door size, approximate weight, and traffic level, we can recommend a sensible hinge configuration.
Care
How do I clean and maintain my door finish?
Use a soft cloth with mild soap and water for most painted and veneered surfaces. Avoid harsh solvents and abrasive pads. For oiled timber, follow the oil makerβs schedule and keep water from sitting on the surface. For exterior doors, check seals and touch up exposed edges if needed, as the edges are often where wear begins.
My door rubs the frame. What should I check first?
Check hinge screws for tightness, confirm the hinges are fully seated, and look for a consistent gap around the door. Seasonal movement can also cause minor changes. If it is an exterior door, check that seals are not over-compressed and the threshold is level. If you want, send a photo showing the rub point and we will suggest a practical fix.
Still unsure?
If you have a non-standard frame, a flat with tight clearances, or an older lock case, we can help you avoid ordering the wrong parts. Send your measurements and photos and we will reply with the simplest safe option. If you already know the SKUs you want, include them in your message so we can confirm availability and lead times.
